Consider this...
You are looking for a hotel to take your partner to for the weekend as a birthday treat. You go online and look at several hotels in the area you wish to visit. Most have a few nice photographs, however, one has a virtual tour that allows you to interactively wander around and view the reception area, the lobby, the restaurant/s and bar/s, the spa, a selection of rooms - including their bathrooms and views, and the grounds. It all looks fabulous. All other things being equal, which one would you choose...?
Customers are risk-averse...
and they what to know what they are getting before parting with their hard-earned cash. They want to know the quality of the bedrooms,
the bathrooms, the restaurant, lounge, and bar, etc. Their worst case scenario is to turn up at a hotel they pre-booked only to be completely disappointed with it. If time was object they would visit each short-listed hotel and then make a decision which one to stay in.
